Upcycled Neck Tie Egg Dying

Do you remember my suitcase full of old neck ties?  Well when ever I have a whole lot of one thing I am on the lookout for creative ways to use the items.  I did finally make a purse with some of the ties.  And I have come across a few other ideas like wallets and headbands but who knew you could do this with an old neck tie

 

(The answer of course is a whole lot of people as a simple google search will reveal.  But it was new to me and I just had to give it a try)

 

 
 
I know you may be thinking that I am having trouble letting go of Easter but we don't have to follow any particular calendar rules here at the Upcycled Design Lab.  So I am officially calling them Mother's Day Eggs even though it would be more appropriate for Father's day.

Upcycled Necktie Purse

I don't know why but I have recently discovered that I love to sew by hand, which of course in this day and age, is a ridicules waste of time.  So I have decided to consider it sort of like meditation to alleviate some of my guilty feelings about all the other things I should be doing.  It kind of works. 

 

As a side note I have actually tried meditation and found that I am remarkably inept at it.  Who knew it actually requires a skill set that I don't have.  How very impudent of me to presume that anyone could do it.

 

But enough about me. 

 

On to the project:

 

Do you remember this pile of unruly neckties?

 

 

 

Well the pile is now a whole 6 ties shorter.  Which still doesn't allow for very easy closing of the suitcase but the clutter bug part of my personalty considers it a small victory.  "See" it says, to the sainer part of my brain,  "Nener Nener, I did so to use those ties for something!  And so what if I spent a kazillion hours of sewing by hand."

Ties Ties and more Neckties

 

Since I have recently acquired a kazillion neck ties, I have been looking for ways to use them in my upcycling projects.  Here a few ideas and designs that I like.
