If you sell on EBay then you have probably heard about the new pricing changes that will take effect on March 30, 2010. If you are like me you are probably trying to figure out just what that means for your type and level of selling.
For the purposes of this post I am not going to address the final value fees. To quote Ebay "Final Value Fees for the most part are staying the same" I acknowledge that is a heavily loaded statement but for simplicity sake I am only going to discuss the upfront listing fees and store fees.
Here is a look at my numbers:
First my current stats:
1) I currently have a basic store subscription at $15.95 per month.
2) I have approximately 300 store listings with 90% of them re-listing at 3 cents every 30 days and 10% re-listing at 5 cents every 30 days. ($9.60)
3) I have about 50 Fixed price listings every month all of them list for 35 cents. ($17.50)
4) I run about 150 Auction style listings every month with the following breakdown 10% list for 15 cent, 75% list for 35 cents and 15% list for 55 cents. (54.01)
If you run those numbers you should get a total of $97.06
Now a look at two of my options
Option number 1 - Keep my basic store and pay higher Fixed Price listing fees
***** If you are not familiar with the changes please note that after March 30th there will no longer be "store listings." All current store listings will be moved by EBay to the FIxed Price listing formate and will re-list at what ever listing rate the seller has selected by their store subscription. ****
Ok back to option number 1
1) Store subscription Basic at $15.95
2) 300 store listing will become Fixed Price listings and re-list at 20 cents every 30 days. ($60.00)
3) 50 Current Fixed Price listings will list for 20 cents. ($10.00)
4) My 150 Auction type listing would have the following breakdown 10% would list at 10 cents, 75% would list at 25 cents and 15% would list at 50 cents. ($40.88)
Total for option 1 = $126.83
Option number 2 Upgrade to a Premium Store
1) Premium store subscription $49.95
2) 300 Store listing will become Fixed Price listings and re-list at 5 cents evey 30 days. ($15.00)
3) 50 Fixed price listings will list for 5 cents each. ($2.50)
4) My auction listings will remain the same as in the first options. ($40.88)
Total for option # 2 = $108.33
Here is a link to a related article from CBS NEWS.
According to EBay representatives quoted in the CBS article we (those sellers who are frustrated about the changes and are adversely effected by them) are the minority. I wonder if that can really be true?
You can also read more about the changes on EBay 2010 Spring Seller update.
If you visit the EBay 2010 Spring Seller update page. Please don't be too excited by the 3 cent fixed price listing fees. They are not for the rank and file EBay sellers but if you can afford to pay $299.95 a month for an anchor store you can enjoy this new perk.
Also you will read about 100 FREE listings for 99 cent auctions. It is my understanding that you only get this incentive if you do not have an EBay store. (In the options above even if I did get this small incentive I would only save $1.50)
If you are an EBay seller I urge you to educate yourself on how these changes will effect you.
I would love to hear from any small to mid size sellers that are finding these changes helpful to their selling.
